Train-o-Rama 2005: Accidental Techies Learn the Tricks of the Trade

Andy Wolber leads the opening session of Train-o-Rama 2005.

For the first time ever, NPower Michigan organized Train-o-Rama in 2005, a free service event, on September 30.  Over 25 nonprofit professionals learned "accidental techie" tips and tricks that would help them to keep their computers running smoothly.

The event was organized into three informative seminars relevant to the nonprofit sector: Where the Rubber Meets the Road: Basic Computer Maintenance; Teach 'em to Fish: Empowering Staff; and Waving the White Flag: Knowing When to Get Help.

20 nonprofit agencies were represented at the event.  What did they have to say about the day?

  • Each topic was explained in "english" ... I could understand what was being taught.
  • Having 3 sessions taught by different folks allowed for smaller groups and better interaction.
  • I am glad that I came to this seminar.  Our organization needs to know as much about technology as possible to help us grow.
  • The information was good and can be applied in the work force.
  • Thank you for the helpful hints!

Based on the overwhelmingly, positive responses, NPower Michigan has decided to make this an annual event, free of charge to the nonprofit community.
