About NPower Michigan

Our Guiding Philosophy

Our vision is a thriving nonprofit sector in which all organizations have access to the best technology resources and know-how and can apply these tools to help create healthy, vibrant, thriving communities. Our mission is to help nonprofits use technology to better serve their communities.

We are passionate about the work of nonprofits. Every NPower Michigan service offering and strategy is informed by and evaluated on what helps nonprofits succeed at achieving their missions. We are committed to ensuring that all nonprofits can access and afford effective technology solutions that rival those available in the private sector.

History

NPower Michigan started operation in 2002.  NPower Michigan was the first statewide affiliate of the NPower Network, a national network of local nonprofits that help other nonprofits use technology to better serve their communities.  In addition to Microsoft Corporation's visionary and founding support of the NPower Network, NPower Michigan was initially funded by multi-year grants from Kellogg Foundation, C.S. Mott Foundation, and Kresge Foundation.

In 2006, NPower Michigan combined its membership base with that of Michigan Nonprofit Association, resulting in more than 850 member organizations served.

Overview

NPower Michigan provides technology consulting and sector-specific training to its member organizations. We developed TechTrek, an innovative program that combines consulting and training services.

TechTrek includes a series of technology planning workshops, on-site visits by an NPower technology consultant, and funding to begin implementation of a technology plan. NPower has conducted the TechTrek program for more than 100 nonprofits in collaboration with organizations such as New Detroit, the Toledo Community Foundation, and as part of the Kellogg funded Communities of Color project.
